Many people don't realize that abandoning animals is a misdemeanor crime in Oklahoma. So, what do you do if a stray dog shows up at your house or you see one on your road? There are many resources out there to try and find the owner of the dog. Click on the Stray Resources button below. If you have no luck finding the owner or can't deal with it, you can call the Tahlequah City Pound at 918-456-1241 if you live in the city limits and see if they can take the dog. If they are full, please contact us for help. We might ask if you can feed the dog there for a few days until we can find a foster for the dog. But we will help you!
Although most people try to find a family member or friend to take their dog if they are no longer able to care for it, some people don't have any options like that. We can help when an owner needs to surrender their dog to a rescue. Please contact us to discuss. You will be responsible to get a heartworm test, rabies and DHPP vaccines, and spay/neuter before we can take the dog. In addition, we have an Owner Surrender Release Form we'll ask you to sign.
